Wrexham Community Safety Partnership (CSP) Priorities 2023-2026

Why are we doing this?:

Community Safety Partnerships (CSP’s) are a requirement of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. CSP’s are made up of responsible authorities who work together to protect their local communities from crime and help people feel safer. The CSP assess local crime priorities and consult partners and the local community about how to deal with them, these could be on categories such as anti-social behaviour, violent crime and drug or alcohol abuse.

The ‘responsible authorities’ who make up the CSP in Wrexham are as follows:

  • North Wales Police
  • Wrexham County Borough Council
  • Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board
  • HM Prison and Probation Services in Wales
  • North Wales Fire and Rescue Service
  • AVOW
  • North Wales Area Planning Board (APB)

CSP statutory duties and functions

Whilst CSP’s are responsible for a range of activity, the statutory obligations upon them are to:

  • Set up a strategic group to direct the work of the partnership (Community Safety Partnership Board)
  • Set up protocols and systems for sharing information.
  • Analyse a wide range of data, including crime levels and patterns, in order to identify priorities
  • Set out a partnership plan and monitor progress
  • Commission Domestic Violence Homicide reviews
  • Regularly engage and consult with the community about their priorities and progress achieving them.

Wrexham's CSP, based on the priorities of the Safer North Wales Board, the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioners Plan (attached), along with local Community Engagement via North Wales Police's Talking Survey, propose the following priorities for 2023-2026.

  1. Work in Partnership to Reduce Crime and Disorder
  2. Work in Partnership to tackle Violence against Women and Girls, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence.
  3. Tackle Violent and Serious Organised Crime
  4. Protect and build resilient communities and maintain public safety.
